The NSU Theatre Company’s North by Northeastern Art and Film Festival is allowing the Tahlequah community a chance to witness a variety of art forms from around the world.

Each night of the festival begins with one act plays directed by NSU theatre students. The first student one act play will be “Plaza Suite: Visitor from Marmaroneck.” The play is directed by Meghan Neal, NSU student.

On the second night, spectators can enjoy short films sent in from around the world and one made by a group of NSU students. The types of the short films will change from night to night.

“It’s really cool how people from Brazil and Iran have sent in their short films to North by Northeastern,” said Kristyn Mixson, Vinita sophomore.

The third and final act of each night is a production of John Patrick’s “Shanley’s Doubt: A Parable” directed by Scott Pursley, NSU technical director. The production also stars Dr. Robyn Pursley and Christopher Miller, NSU theatre professors.

North by Northeastern is a four day event starting April 13. Each night will begin promptly at 7 p.m., except on Saturday.

“On Saturday beginning at 1 p.m., we will run all seven of the student directed one acts and at 4 p.m. we will show all 22 short films,” said Pursley.

Christopher Miller, assistant professor explained his hopes for the festival.

“The public will have opportunities to see a great variety of work from both the local community as well as several short films from around the world,” said Miller. “This is a great start to what I hope will be a long tradition.”

All shows are free and open to the public.
