Tahlequah music scene consists of more than just Red Dirt

In the last few years, the Tahlequah pop punk and punk rock music scenes have steadily grown. Many students at NSU supported that growth, whether it be through purchasing merchandise and tickets to shows or by joining the bands that make up the scene. With venues like Dream Theater, and festivals like Green Country Roots, Tahlequah has made a home for the not-so-expected music genre.

With the spring semester coming to a close, there is still entertainment to be found at NSU. The NSU music department has many upcoming concerts and recitals. These performances will show the work the NSU music students have been doing during the academic year.


MisFest showcases female musicians in Oklahoma

Even today in the music scene, it is still a “thing” to have a female drummer or lead guitarist. It is still a “thing” to have a band comprised of all women. It is even a “thing” to see women be successful in the music industry in any capacity. This is not to say that there are no thriving female musicians or tour managers or sound engineers, but it brings up the question of why it is worth mentioning that someone is successful while also happening to be a woman. This line of thinking is exactly what inspired Amira Al-Jiboori and Casii Stephan to create MisFest.
