JCPenney and Career Services team up to offer NSU discounts on professional clothing

JCPenney is partnering with NSU Career Services to provide college students with an additional 40-60 percent off on all professional business attire.

When networking or interviewing it is important to dress for success,” said Kaylie Bradley, career counselor. “This event helps make that easier and affordable for students.”

The Suit Up event will educate students on the importance of looking professional and how to perfect it at a reasonable cost.

“When interacting with potential future employers during networking or career fair events, it is always important to make a good first impression,” said Bradley. “Professional dress helps make this possible.  Most industries have some sort of dress code, whether it be a uniform, business casual or professional, so it is important to start learning those things earlier rather than later.  Knowing how to dress professionally and what that means in varied environments aids with career readiness and professional success.”

JCPenney employees will be on hand at the event to take measurements and make sure each student gets fitted correctly.

“When I started interviews, I realized that my professional clothes were not up to par,” said Sarah Tilley, career event specialist. “As a college student I did not have a lot of extra cash to spend on a suit and heels. I actually had to borrow an outfit from a friend that did not fit me properly. This event would have given me the opportunity to find quality professional attire and not break the bank.”

With all that must be done, it can be stressful for students preparing for life after graduation. This event will help students with the transition from college life to career fairs, networking events, meetings, and professional development conferences.

Dressing professionally shows that you are prepared and put effort into whatever networking event or interview you are attending,” said Tilley. "You are also dressing for success, when you look good you feel good and you will perform at that standard.”

The Suit Up event is open to all NSU students, faculty, staff, and alumni. All that is needed is an NSU ID or to be verifiable through CareerLink.

Students who would like to ride from the Tahlequah or Broken Arrow campus will need to register on CareerLink. The transportation is first come first serve and there is limited seating.  Career Services welcomes pre-registration, though pre-registration is not required to attend unless utilizing the transportation.  Students will need to bring their NSU ID to JCPenney for the check in and to secure their Suit Up coupon.

“Nice professional clothing is hard to find at this good of a price,” said Austin Tarver, Keys junior. “I’m happy to hear that Career Services is working so hard to prepare NSU students for their future.”

The sale event is from 6:30-10 p.m. on Sunday, March 11, at JCPenney in the Woodland Hills Mall on 7021 S. Memorial Drive in Tulsa.
