RiverHawks earn ticket to NCAA Tournament, rematch at Fort Hays State set

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.  – For the second straight season, Northeastern State is heading to the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament as the Central Region's second at-large team the National Collegiate Athletics Association announced on its Selection Show Monday evening.
 
This is the sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in men's soccer at Northeastern State and they will have a third rematch at Fort Hays State on Nov. 15/16 at 7 p.m.  The winner between the RiverHawks and Tigers will be crowned as Central Region Champions and will play the top-remaining team out of the Midwest Region on Nov. 17/18 in Hays, Kan for the NCAA Super Region 3 Championship. 
 
The RiverHawks fell in both regular season meetings with the Tigers.  In the second matchup, Northeastern State took the Tigers to overtime and lost on a PK goal in overtime.
 
Last season, Northeastern State knocked off Fort Hays State, 2-1 in the Regional Final.
 
In 20 meetings with Fort Hays State, the Tigers lead the series slightly 7-8-5.
 
The winner of the Super Region 3 Championship between the Central and Midwest Regions will advance to the semifinals, which will be hosted at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa.
