NSU analyzes move to the MIAA

NSU announced the move for athletics from the Lone Star Conference to the MIAA Conference in 2010. The official move was made in 2012 with rival in-state school University of Central Oklahoma also making the jump to the MIAA with NSU.

NSU tabs Downey as men’s basketball head coach

NSU has officially hired Mark Downey to be the next head basketball coach for the RiverHawk men’s basketball program. Downey has an impressive resume coming from a Division I assistant coaching position at Fort Wayne (NCAA DI). NSU Athletic Director Tony Duckworth was stoked to get a coach the caliber of Downey to lead the RiverHawks.

Coaches in this day and age rarely stay at the same place for more than five years, much less ten years. Eighteen years at the same institution is nearly unheard of, but that is exactly what Randy Gipson did as the NSU women’s basketball head coach.

Over the last 17 years, as the head coach of the women’s program at NSU, Randy Gipson has won more games than any other coach before him in program history. Recently, the RiverHawks have undergone a major change, switching conferences to the MIAA.
