RiverHawks drop 45-7 contest to #23 Pitt State

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State's offense was limited to just under 200 yards as #23-ranked Pittsburg State scored 24 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 45-7 win over the RiverHawks Saturday evening. Ryheem Brummitt caught a 61-yard pass reception in the second quarter accounting for NSU's (0-3 MIAA) lone scoring play.  The Gorillas (3-0) scored 24 of the points off turnovers with the RiverHawks throwing into the PSU secondary four times.  
 
TURNING POINT 
Trailing by two scores out of the locker room, Lane Yoder intercepted a Gorillas' pass on the second play of the opening drive in the second half.   With the ball at midfield, Cade Yeager connected on a 23-yard pass to Isaiah Upshaw.  Back-to-back sacks followed pushing NSU to a long third down and later a punt.  Pittsburg State scored on the ensuing drive on nine plays to go up 28-7 on the RiverHawks.
 
PERFORMANCES TO HIGHLIGHT

  • Jean Bazlie led the Northeastern State defense with a season high 13 tackles. 
  • Craig Davis had 131 All-Purpose yards, which included a 53-yard run on the opening kickoff.
 IN THE BOXSCORE
  • Most of the Gorillas' yards were on the ground with 285 to the RiverHawks' 29 on 32 carries.
  • Tre'von Overstreet had 14 carries for 54 yards to led NSU. 

Historically Speaking
Pitt State has taken the series edge in Tahlequah with a 7-6-1 record.
 
UP NEXT
Northeastern State will head on the road next Saturday to face Missouri Western (1-2 MIAA) at 7 p.m.
