NSU falls 66-16 at Missouri Western

ST. JOSEPH, MO. –  Isaiah Upshaw had four receptions for 104 yards for the RiverHawks who dropped a 66-16 contest on Saturday evening at Missouri Western State.   The Griffons would put up 612 yards of offense on the RiverHawks' defense with 326 of those coming on the ground.  Northeastern State quarterbacks were brought down six times and limited to 210 yards to fall to 0-4 this season.  Missouri Western moved to 2-2 this season with the win.

TURNING POINT
21 unanswered points by the Griffons in the first quarter; the RiverHawks would go three-and-out with one first down during that scoring stretch.

PERFORMANCES TO HIGHLIGHT
  • The RiverHawks blocked two extra point attempts by Missouri Western State.  Ja'len Evans had a grab on NSU's first blocked kick and ran the ball back for a safety in the second quarter.   
  • J'Quille Washington paced the NSU defense with ten tackles and he had two tackles of a loss.
  • Jake Pruitt entered as quarterback in the second quarter and was 9-for-20 in pass attempts with 134 yards.
  • Upshaw's 34-yard punt return in the third quarter was the longest since the 2016 season.
IN THE BOX SCORE
  • 26 combined flags were flown for 305 penalty yards.
  • Craig Davis and Boo McKnight both had rushing touchdowns for the RiverHawks.
  • Jay Baker saw his first for action for NSU under center and rushed for 16 yards in his career debut.
HISTORICALLY SPEAKING
The two blocked extra points is tied for first in NSU's NCAA Division II era, this was last accomplished in the 2014 season.

UP NEXT
Northeastern State will host Nebraska-Kearney for this year's homecoming game on Saturday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.  The 1958 NAIA National Championship team will be honored during the contest.
