Published 4/10/18

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Northeastern State earned its second consecutive third place team finish scoring a 616 (310-306) at the Central Region Spring Preview on Tuesday

Ebba Moberg shot the RiverHawks' low round of the day with a 74 (+2) and finished tied for tenth place overall.  The NSU junior earned her 13th career top-10 finish carding a 153.

Tournament host Arkansas Tech ran away from the field in the final round with a 293, which was ten shots lower than the next lowest team score to win with a 601.

"Arkansas Tech was National Championship good today, so hats off to them," said head coach Scott Varner.  "Sometimes that just happens in this wonderful game."

"We didn't win, but for the third tournament in a row we were in the leader group with the tournament on the line on the final day.  We were balanced in our scoring, with four girls in the top-20 out of about 100 players and 18 teams."

Kelsey Lumpkin finished tied with Moberg with a 153 and carded a 77 on Tuesday.  Just behind by a shot was NSU freshman Sumie Francois who placed tied for 13th overall (78-76).   Lexi Armon was tied for 18th with a 156 (77-79).

Halie Wright scored a 166 (81-85) and was tied for 43rd on the leader board.

The RiverHawks were the top finishing team of the eight completing out of the MIAA which Varner and company hopes will carry on to the conference tournament in two weeks.

"We should be the favorite to defend our MIAA title for the third year in a row," Varner said.  "We have won eight tournaments over the last two years and this is essentially the same team. We know how to win."
