NSU’s Joe Garcia earns All-American accolades

11/29/18

TAHLEQUAH – Northeastern State's Joe Garcia will complete his four-year career on Wednesday as a Third Team All-American by the United Soccer Coaches and the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA).

This is the second consecutive year the senior from Grand Prairie, Texas has been named by both the national coaches and sports information directors.

Garcia was in the midst of a NCAA Division II Men's Soccer record by scoring a goal in the first 11 contests when an injury in the 12th contest ended his season early.  His streak is tied for fourth all-time nationally and the longest streak in men's soccer since the 2012-13 season.   Despite missing the final seven matches of the season, Garcia was ranked second in the Central Region with 13 goals, and tied for 26th nationally.

In the NSU record book, Garcia finished third with 97 career points, and is fifth netting 34 career goals; he also is second with 29 assists.

Since 2012, the men's soccer program has earned 12 All-American awards.
