No. 6 RiverHawks complete fourth straight prefect MIAA season with 9-0 sweep of Lindenwood

Published 4/12/18

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – No. 6 Northeastern State earned its second straight team sweep on Wednesday with a 9-0 win over Lindenwood.  The victory over the Lions gave the RiverHawks (15-4, 9-0 MIAA) its fourth straight perfect season in MIAA play and its fourth straight outright conference title.

With 47 straight conference wins, NSU seniors Easton Parker and Molly Worden will graduate this spring without seeing a RiverHawks' conference team loss.

The match, which was played on a neutral site after being postponed due to weather earlier in the season saw Northeastern State roll past Lindenwood (4-10, 3-5 MIAA) quickly in doubles.  In-between its three courts, the RiverHawks allowed only four overall game wins.

Northeastern State later won on all six flights in singles with Mayra Jovic completing an overall perfect regular season with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep on court-two to advance her record to 17-0 this spring.  Tatjana Stoll won 6-2, 6-0 on the RiverHawks' top-court to move to 16-3 overall.

The NSU singles team finished MIAA play with a 49-5 record.  Jovic, Stoll, and Karla Tomaic all finished the conference season without a loss.

Coming up next, Northeastern State will be the top seed for the upcoming MIAA Tournament, which will start on April 16 in Lincoln, Neb.  The RiverHawks will face Missouri Western (10-11, 2-7 MIAA) in the opening round.  In the regular season, NSU swept the Griffons, 9-0 on the road.
