ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – Northeastern State used another rally and split its final day in Arkansas on Saturday morning.  The RiverHawks fell 7-3 in UT-Tyler in the opener and bested Henderson State 5-3 on their home turf.

With the split, Northeastern State will return home with a 3-1 record to start the year.

In the early bird game, Sierra Crick hit an RBI single in the opening frame to get a 1-0 jump on UT-Tyler.

The Patriots responded back with three runs in each of the first two innings and never trailed the rest of the way.

Northeastern State would get two runs off the bat of Randi Castillo who came in as a pinch hitter in the fifth.

The RiverHawks had six hits with Cameron Conrad going 2-for-3 at the leadoff spot.  Sydney Balderrama (1-1) was charged with the loss going 1 1/3 innings. Alex Azua spun 4 1/3 in relief and Anna Hammer recorded an out in her NSU debut.

In the nightcap, the RiverHawks played themselves out of a 3-0 hole against Henderson State who plated three in the second inning.  Northeastern State grabbed its first run on a Sierra Crick ground out in the third.

Crick would come through again for NSU two innings later with a RBI double.  Northeastern State pulled even with the Reddies with Kyla Ibarra drawing a bases loaded walk.  Later in the same frame, Kelsey Harmon hit a go-ahead RBI single to right center to put NSU up 4-3.  Conrad added an insurance run on a ground out.

Henderson State threatened in the seventh after opening the inning with a walk and single.  A sacrifice bunt moved both runners into scoring position to put the tying run on second.  NSU starter Gail Young (2-0) worked out of the jam striking out the next batter and recording the final out on a fly ball.

The RiverHawks were out-hit by Henderson State 12-to-5 but drew nine walks. Sierra Crick finished with two RBI and Young tossed a complete game.

Northeastern State returns to action on Friday where they will travel to Edmond for five games over the weekend.
