NSU tennis picked as MIAA favorites

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Northeastern State is the 2018 pick with claim this season's MIAA title, league officials announced on Monday.

The RiverHawks have won the last four MIAA Regular Season Championships and were MIAA Tournament Champions last season.  Presently, NSU has won 38 MIAA regular season contests in a row.

In the last five seasons, Northeastern State has claimed a NCAA Regional crown, and advanced to the NCAA Championships' Round of 16 matches.

Northeastern State received four first place votes from the MIAA coaches and 76 points to edge out Central Oklahoma who had five first place votes and 66 points in the poll.

The RiverHawks opened their season last week with a split, falling 6-3 to No. 8 St. Mary's on the road, and beating Texas A&M-Kingsville 8-1.

MIAA play for Northeastern State starts on March 9 with Nebraska-Kearney coming to Tahlequah.
