The RiverHawk women’s tennis team (17-2, 10-0 MIAA) ended their season with a nonconference match against Midwestern State University on April 23. Midwestern State is currently ranked 20 overall.

“It’s a big match on the national scale, said Amanda Stone, head coach. “Both teams have ranked players, so from a team and individual perspective there is a lot at stake on this match.”

NSU now focuses their sights on the quarterfinals match of the MIAA Conference Championship against eighth ranked Washburn University (8-12, 3-7 MIAA).

This will be the fourth-straight season, NSU is facing the Ichabods in the opening round of the tournament. The RiverHawks are 7-0 against Washburn since joining the MIAA in 2013.

“We have come on so much this year compared to last year, said Molly Worden, Fishbourne, Chichester, England sophomore. “We have a lot more belief as a team this year and I think our success has showed that.”

The RiverHawks have earned the number one seed at the 2016 MIAA Championship. This marks the third-straight year that NSU will serve as the tournament's top seed.

NSU has also brought home five of the 10 weekly awards handed out by the MIAA this season. The RiverHawks have had four different award winners, and no other school in the conference has had more than two.

“I feel excited going into the MIAA Championship,” said Patricia Husakova, Trencin, Slovakia senior. “We got so close last year and we have a really good team this year, so I think we can win it.”

NSU will open play against Washburn University at 9 a.m. on April 29 at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Missouri.
