The NSU honor’s students were looking for a fundraiser to help a local nonprofit. They decided to hand out a survey during a meeting and have everyone choose who they would prefer to donate the money to that they accumulated.
Students decided on the Humane Society and decided to have a bake sale in the UC lobby on Wednesday, March 22. On the table they placed information for people to pick up as they walked by or purchased items from the sale. The papers placed on the table were information about the shelter buddy program, volunteer opportunities and a shoe drive that the Humane Society has going on right now.
The shelter buddy program allows volunteers to pick an animal to visit with and help out with daily care tasks such as walks.
The information to volunteer included days and times that are available for volunteer. Volunteer hours are available from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday. Weekend volunteer hours are available from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday and Sunday.
The shoe drive started March 15 and will run through April 15. Gently worn shoes can be dropped off at the HSCC Resale Shop in Tahlequah.
For more information about volunteer opportunities, call the Humane Society at 918-458-1147, noon to 4:30 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday.
