As students prepare for to take a break in the semester, resident assistants prepare to close buildings for the break. The preparation includes finishing any remaining jobs, doing health and safety inspections and doing a final walkthrough of each hall. Resident assistants also take the time to ensure residents understand the process.

“Closing is different every semester it seems,” said Ryan Pinkston, Wyly Hall resident assistant. “We try to encourage students to unplug utilities, turn off lights and close window blinds when they leave, because we have to do that during our final walkthroughs anyway. Of course, they can leave their essentials plugged in. It gets hectic sometimes, but fall break is one of easier breaks since it is short. We’re students too, and even with the work, we are excited to have a break too.”

The residence halls close 5 p.m. on Oct. 5 and re-open 1 p.m. on Oct. 22. If students wish to stay over the break, they must sign up via email. Meals end 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 18 and will resume 5 p.m. on Oct. 22. However, food services will be available with cash or flex points at the Suites Grill from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. over the break.
