Habitat for Humanity is a international non-profit organization whose main focus is to provide housing in communities throughout the United States. By having local branches in all 50 states and 70 countries, they strive for everyone to have a decent place to live. Habitat for Humanity in Tahlequah is one of these branches, providing housing, clothes and supplies for people in need.


Local figures speculate over Oklahoma primaries

In April, teachers all across Oklahoma went on strike and demanded pay raises.  Teacher salaries in Oklahoma are the lowest in the United States. Multiple jobs among teachers are a commonality.  After a ten-day strike, the teachers obtained a $10,000 raise funded by taxes on tobacco, online shopping and fracking.


Erika Downey donates kidney to Billy Gillespie

Billy Gillespie, Ranger College Athletic Director, has been a revered head coach for the last three decades. In December, he found out that he was suffering from kidney failure. In a story to the Dallas Morning News, the 58-year-old head coach was told he was in need of a kidney transplant. A few days later, Ericka Downey, a 33-year old medical device salesperson and the wife of NSU’s men’s basketball head coach Mark Downey, saw the story.
