The mission of the Northeastern Activities Board is to promote student involvement by offering activities and entertainment for the college experience. Students who participate are challenged to expand their experiences, diversity, knowledge and creativity. Internally, there are ways to become involved with the many chairs of NAB: chairperson of the board, public relations, administration, membership, social media, concerts, entertainment, cultural and current events, RiverHawk pride and road trips. Those who volunteer have opportunities to help with the events of the semester in planning and execution and become close to volunteers who share the same goal.

“I am proud of how well everyone gets along and how we all work together to get things done, even if they're last minute,” said Hannah Godfrey, NAB volunteer. “I did concerts last year, but volunteering for tailgating was new for me. My favorite experience was getting to DJ the tailgates and seeing everyone come together and dance. Everyone really seems to enjoy it and it has been a lot of fun. NAB is an amazing organization that we as students are very lucky to have and everyone should take advantage of the events they put on.”

Events and programs through NAB are often free for students to attend and are funded by the student activities fees each semester. There are many signature NAB events, including the Cherokee County Nation Angel Tree program, the World Fair, the spring concert and Merchant Mall. NAB members and chair positions plan these and plan them to fit each semester. Membership with NAB can be gained through a volunteering point system and includes benefits such as leadership experiences, campus involvement and memories.

“It may sound strange, but just getting together and brainstorming ideas for upcoming events to make college more fun for students really makes my Mondays better,” said Taylor Austin, NAB member. “I'm not sure if anything is set in stone, but we have been brainstorming some pretty cool options. I know since we aren't doing a big concert in the spring, Connor Schapp, NAB concerts chair, has some awesome ideas for slightly smaller music events that students will really enjoy. I also know that for RiverHawk Pride, we will be setting up at home basketball games to cheer on our teams. I would 100 percent suggest coming to a meeting, getting involved and helping out at events.”

The board is proud of their events and accomplishments this semester, but each semester offers a new goal to reach. NAB is open to growth and is always seeking new ways to satisfy the wants and needs of the student body. That is why students are encouraged to voice their opinions through events and meetings in hopes of creating an environment beneficial for all.

“I always enjoying hearing students on campus talk about an NAB event they had gone to and how it was so much fun,” said JuliAnna Smith, chairman of the board. “This semester has been very hectic but also very fun. I am proud of the events that the board provided for students this semester. Next semester, the board has come up with a variety of new events that we are all very excited to provide for the students. I believe that we have an awesome semester planned and I hope that the students are as excited as we are.”

NAB has biweekly committee meetings open to all interested students. NAB events often have posters and emails for advertising, but the full calendar is available online.
