Each year, the week of homecoming kicks off with Paint the Town Green. Student organizations get together with surrounding downtown business to decorate windows with images depicting NSU school spirit and pride. It also is way for student organizations to have a fun time with their fellow members and get excited for the week’s festivities.

“This gives us a way to be seen in the community,” said Brandon Collom, Baptist Collegiate Ministry member. “Also, it shows how proud we are of are organization and the university.”

Students submitted their designs in early September to participate in the event. The Homecoming Committee then had to approve the organization’s design to be in the contest. The Homecoming Committee will provide each group two bottles of green paint, one bottle of black paint, one bottle of white paint, tape, foam brushes and a plastic tarp. Once the students pick up their supplies, they will go to the organization’s assigned window and start painting their unique NSU-themed design.

“It brings us together,” said Austin Ladd, Kappa Sigma president. “We are all working together to achieve a common goal.”

The event lasts from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 24. The judges will then go around downtown and decide the winners. The top three finishers will receive a cash prize: first wins $150 second wins $100 and third wins $50.
