The Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary organize fundraisers all year to help families in need. The biggest fundraiser they do is Fashion for a Cause. This fundraiser is done every year to help send children to summer camp at Camp Heart O’ Hills in Welling and day camp at the Salvation Army Corps in Muskogee.

“Last year, the Women’s Auxiliary provided over $6,000 to send 33 teens and children to the summer camp for a total of 218 days,” said Joy Walker, president of Women’s Auxiliary. “There was also $7,000 to help underfund the ten week day camp program for 48 children, which included 43 field trips.”

Fashion for a Cause starts out as a silent auction.

“Businesses and Women’s Auxiliary members have donated the items to be auctioned off,” said Walker. “Last year we had 106 silent auction items ranging in value from $25 to $150.”

In addition to the silent auction, there is a jewelry drawing that will be taking place.

Walker said Haley & Loyd Jewelry donated a bracelet valued at $395. Each ticket for the drawing will be a $1 donation.

People can also help by being sponsors. Event sponsors can be individuals or businesses that donate $250. Then there are donors, which are individuals or businesses that donate less than $250. Sponsors get a receipt and can use it for tax breaks.

Taking place that day will also be luncheon catered by Golden Corral.

Walker said they will be serving chicken salad on a bed of lettuce, croissants, fruit cups, teacakes and tea.

“Fashion trends and clothing will be provided by Dillard’s, Bea Mea’s, Cato and Crowning Moments,” said Walker.

The models are volunteers found by Becky Prado, former secretary of Women’s Auxiliary.

Walker said the models range in age from senior citizens to 4 year olds.

“It is mostly a women’s fashion show, but there will be a few men,” said Carol Clutter, chair coordinator for Fashion for a Cause. “Bob Coburn, mayor of Muskogee, will be one of the male models in the show.”

Fashion for a Cause is taking place at 10:30 a.m., May 5 at First Assembly of God. The silent auction will take place and then the luncheon and style show will start at 11:30 a.m.

Prado said they are always looking for new members to join the Auxiliary. It is $20 a year to be a member and being involved is according to how much time one is willing to commit to.
