Hofmeister credits grassroots advocacy for half a billion dollars in new public ed investment

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 29, 2018) – State Superintendent of Public Instruction Joy Hofmeister made the following remarks after Gov. Fallin’s signing of House Bill 1010xx. The landmark legislation, the first to earn the required three-fourths majority in both chambers since the passage of State Question 640 in 1992, provides nearly half a billion dollars in funding for common education, including a significant teacher pay increase, raises for support staff and restored textbook funding.

1889 INSTITUTE RECOMMENDS SCHOOL DISTRICTS INSTITUTE CONVERSION SCHOOLS

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (March 29, 2018) – The 1889 Institute, an Oklahoma state policy think tank, has published “Conversion Schools: Local Districts Have No Excuse.” This short paper points out that school districts now have the power to free themselves of many of the rules and regulations imposed by the state. Local school boards can unilaterally designate all, or any part, of a school that they oversee as a conversion school.
